This city is the centre for Norway's oil industry and nearby is Madla where the Norwegian Marine has its recruitment centre. The city consists of old cosy wooden houses from the 1860's and in these, you find small shops and friendly pubs. Stavanger is also Europe's Capital of Culture for 2008. If you want to experience nature, why not climb up to Prekestolen, one of Norway's most well-known mountains and landmarks.
