All those gay and gay friendly were invited to attend the opening of Reykjaviks very own gay café/gay bar called Trúnó on October the 20th 2010. It is located on Laugavegur 22 in the same house as Trúnó’s big sister gay night club Barbara which is upstairs. The owners of Pink Iceland, Eva María and Birna are the managers of Trúnó and formed the concept and the look from the very start.

The queer crowd in Iceland has a very strong connection to Laugavegur 22 and in the years around 1980 there was a gay bar there, many stories have been told from that time but people walking out the doors of Laugavegur 22 no longer have to do so in fear of being met with violence. Laugavegur 22 has returned to it‘s purpose, which is in our eyes very clear, being the gay palace of Reykjavík.

On the menu you can choose from a good variety ranging from cocoa puffs, cakes, salads, soups paninis or pizzas. There is always fresh hot coffee whether you like it black, with milk or a bit of your favourite liqueur.

The bar selection is excellent, both spirits, wine and beer and the house‘s special is called Trúnó Tjútt, loosely translated Trúnó’s Fever which is a ice cold slushy with just the right amount of Tequila and Cointreau or a mixture of your own choice.

The event calendar is nonstop and every week there is something special happening both at Trúnó and Barbara. Concerts, Pubquiz, Great local and international Dj’s, Queer nights, various meetings, happy hour, stand up comedy nights, performances, queer art, lectures, eurovision nights, the day after when the chocolate milk is extra cold and the coffee extra strong, great parties, private parties and much much more.
