Graffitiutställningen "Snabba Linjer"

Exhibition/

Starting on the 15th of June Clarion Hotel Stockholm will provide a forum for street artists Petter Odevall and Ossian Eckerman to pay tribute to the urban art form of graffiti. The exhibition ”Snabba Linjer” is presented in association with Gallery Steinsland Berliner.

Clarion Hotel Stockholm and Gallery Steinsland Berliner (GSB) have a mutual interest for the urban city, a curiosity for new channels of expression, and a will to bring exposure to the latest in youth art. GSB, situated within walking distance from Clarion Hotel Stockholm, are leaders in Stockholm for bringing attention to new and exciting art works. Focus is given to art of the youth with references to popular and urban culture, and the gallery features artists from all parts of the world. The gallery represents FINSTA(Se), Ragnar Persson(Se) and Erik Foss(Us) and has in the past held exhibitions of artists such as Erik Tidemann(No), Misaki Kawai(Ja/Us), Lisa Jonasson(Se) and Huskmitnavn(Dk).

"Petter Odevall and Ossian Eckerman have since the 90’s created attention-grabbing graffiti and street art. Informed and inspired by their past, their artistic creativity has expanded into areas such as installation art, film and paintings. With these works their aim is to take advantage of graffiti’s self-evident qualities whilst simultaneously setting them free from their associations through repetition and abstraction of the most significant essence of graffiti, lines."

The”Snabba Linjer” exhibition is an extension of Kulturhuset’s exhibition ”Street Smart” that is on display between the 14th of June and the 7th of October.

During the course of it’s existence art has always challenged, questioned, and stretched boundaries. Graffiti emerged in the USA during the same period as when several trends within the art world distanced themselves from closed and elitist institutions. With its anti-institutional attitude, graffiti was quickly embraced by established art scene.

Today’s graffiti and other forms of street art belong to this tradition of anti- art movements. The art form is controversial because it is often performed illegally in public areas, and its validity and contribution is politically-questioned. Street Smart reveals several of the expressions of this contemporary art genre as it is today.
